Dojo Rules and Etiquette

Every one will bow on entering and leaving the Dojo.

Students will address any instructor as Sensei whilst in the Dojo.

OSS is a sign of respect and is used in karate in the following: -

Upon receiving any advice or command from an instructor.

When bowing at the start and finish of the class.

When bowing to your partner during Kumite.

In any other appropriate situation. (During gradings / competitions).

Train at least twice a week.

No one to leave the class without first obtaining permission from the Instructor. Any member arriving late for a class must take up a kneeling position at the front of the class and await the permission of the instructor before joining the class. On receiving permission, bow; reply with OSS and then take up the correct position in the class.

All finger and toenails must be kept clean and in good condition.

Dojo Gi's must be kept clean and in good condition.

ALL jewellery (rings, bracelets, neck chains etc) must not be worn during training, again to prevent injury to others and yourself. If you can not get a ring off or a stud out then it must be taped up to prevent injury. All members will need a licence four weeks after being accepted into training; all members will need a current licence to grade.

Members must not chew, spit, swear, or commit any other act likely to offend other members or etiquette of the Dojo.

Members should arrive 10 minutes before class starts so as to give time to get ready and ensure that the class starts on time.

Articles of value should not be left in the changing rooms as the instructors cannot be held responsible for any articles which are lost, damaged or stolen whilst members are training.

Members must not use their skills in any offensive way outside the Dojo.
