Club News and Update September 2009

Welcome back to those who have had a long summer break, hope you are fit and ready to train. Since the last grading an attendence card has been issued and you should bring this to every lesson to get signed. You will need to have done at least 20 lessons before being considered for grading.

There has been a slight change to the training at Long Sutton, we now have the full use of the sports hall and the lesson will generally be split into a adult and junior class, but on some occasions we may have to run as one group depending on instructor avaiabilty and number of sudents.

Congratulations to Mark Tingle on attaining his Shodan during July 2009, and to Jim Tait who ratified his 2nd Dan under sensei Ohta 6th Dan JKA.

Three instructors from Shotokan Tokon Karate were successful in gaining qualifications at recent examinations held in London. The exams have both a theoretical and practical element. Mick Lowe (left) gained his 'F' licence in refereeing and instructing , and Hilary Lowe and David Saint gained 'G' refereeing and instructing licences. This furthers their knowledge which they can pass onto to their students. It enables them to run local inter-club competitions and they are also required to assist at national competitions such as the Japan Karate Association England National Championships on 5.7.09 in London

Shotokan Tokon Karate welcomed 50 students of all ages and grades, from the age of 5 to 50, beginners to black belts on Sunday 21st June for an exciting day of competition at the Peele Leisure Centre, Long Sutton. Students from clubs at Newark, Sutton-on-Trent, Lincoln University, Eye, and the Deepings came, with instructors from each club assisting in the judging and refereeing. Everyone who entered took part in the spirit of karate and did their best on the day. Amidst stiff competition we would like to congratulate all those who gained medals as follows:
